What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, commonly known as PRP, is a potent, naturally occurring substance drawn from our own blood, abundant in growth factors and elements beneficial for healing. The procedure for PRP treatment involves extracting a blood sample from the patient, which is then processed to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This concentrated PRP is subsequently reintroduced into the target area of the patient’s body, effectively promoting skin rejuvenation, hair growth, or expedited recovery from injuries.

PRP can be used as an add-on to many of our different treatment options. First, a regular blood draw is performed by our staff. Each staff member has a medical background and is proficient at drawing blood and processing PRP. The staff processes the blood, using a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the whole blood. Then, the platelet rich plasma serum is applied topically during or immediately after a minimally invasive procedure to aid in recovery.

It can also be used in conjunction with another treatment at our office to stimulate hair growth.

What Does Recovery
Look Like?

Risks?
What to do before the procedure?

RISK:
Let Dr. Bauer know about any preexisting medical conditions that would preclude you from undergoing PRP therapy. The risks of PRP are similar to those of a standard venipuncture, including the risk of infection and bruising at the blood draw site. Because PRP is a product of your own blood, adverse events are rare.

What to do before the procedure?
Prepare for PRP as you would prepare for the primary procedure you are undergoing. These preparation instructions will be provided for you at your initial consultation.
