What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a treatment that uses a surgical scalpel blade to remove the small vellus hairs (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the face and neck. It leaves your skin feeling ultra smooth, helps in the absorption of products, and leaves your skin instantly glowing. It can be added on with a chemical peel or done as a standalone skin maintenance tool.

Our nurse will apply a headband and cleanse the skin of your face and neck. The dermaplane blade is systematically moved over the skin to remove the dead skin and vellus hairs. You might feel a slight scratching sensation but there is no pain with this treatment.

Benefits?
How long do results last?

Dermaplaning is performed to remove not only dead skin cells, but the thin vellus hairs that are on our face and neck. This results in smoother, glowing skin that can absorb products better. Results last about 4 weeks and the procedure can be done every month.

Risks?
What to do before the procedure?

RISK:
There is a risk of skin sensitivity/irritation and acne breakouts after dermaplaning. There is a risk of infection any time you undergo a procedure in which your skin may be broken; there is a risk of small epidermal cuts from the scalpel blade, particularly around the contours of the face. Technique is employed to reduce this risk. It is not recommended to treat over/on a patient’s beard/mustache.

What to do before the procedure?
We recommend stopping your retinols for a week before your procedure. We don’t want anyone to be on Accutane for at least a year and no chemical peels or other facial procedures 2 weeks before dermaplaning.
