What Are Injectables?

We offer 2 different types of injectables at Valar Aesthetics. We have our tox, which is Xeomin. Xeomin is a preservative-free neuromuscular toxin, our Botox-equivalent tox. This is used primarily to smooth wrinkles but can also be used as a TMJ treatment and for other  aesthetic outcomes such as a bunny nose flip or eyebrow lift.

While results from injectables are immediate and incredible, results typically last 3-9 months depending on the treatment area and medicine used.

Injectables are injected directly into the desired treatment area. Numbing cream is available, but typically for tox it is not needed as the needles used are very small. In addition to numbing cream, we use a small buzzer to distract the cranial nerves in the face away from discomfort and onto the vibration.

What Does Recovery
Look Like?

Immediately after tox injections, there can be some small red bumps at the injection site that goes away within a few hours. Tox takes about a week for the full effect to be noticed. Dermal filler can cause some swelling for a few days post-injection but aesthetic results are immediate. After both treatments, you can resume normal skincare and activities the following day.

Benefits?
How long do results last?

Benefits of tox include a more youthful appearance and reduced or eliminated wrinkles and fine lines from desired treatment area for 3-9 months. Tox is a great, immediate, anti-aging treatment.

Dermal fillers last 4-9 months as well and provide a more aesthetically pleasing look that is desired by the patient, whether that be plumper lips or a more enhanced facial contour.

Risks?
What to do before the procedure?

RISK:
While safe when administered by an aesthetic professional, there is some risk for tox to cause what is called ptosis, or an eyelid droop. If dermal filler is injected in the medial mid-pupillary area, a stroke can occur as well as a risk of nasal necrosis. Dr. Bauer is very aware of these risks, and therefore will not inject filler mid-pupillary and is conservative with tox injections about the eye to avoid eye droop. Both treatments have a risk of slight bleeding and bruising at the injection sites.

What to do before the procedure?
For your injectable appointment, we recommend coming to the office with a face clean of makeup. (Don’t forget your sunscreen!) No other preparations need to be made for these treatments. After your tox appointment, we recommend avoiding touching that area for 24 hours and do not lay down for 4 hours after your procedure to avoid movement of the medicine into a different area of your face. If you have cold sores, pre-treatment with an antiviral medication such as Valtrex or Acyclovir is recommended to avoid an outbreak.
